Heritage regeneration
The Penicuik Heritage Regeneration project is a five-year programme funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and Midlothian Council, with the support of local groups including Penicuik Community Development Trust and Penicuik First.

Historic buildings
The funding will support improvements to historic buildings and public spaces, along with a wide range of community activities and training opportunities for local people. A £400,000 programme of improvements to the High Street, funded by Midlothian Council, is already underway and will be complete by the Spring of next year.

Exhibition and presentations
The Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project will be officially launched on Tuesday 4 December with a public exhibition and presentations on the proposals. The new Penicuik Neighbourhood Plan, which has been developed in conjunction with local residents and community groups, will also be launched at the event. The aim of the plan is to reflect the strengths and priorities of the local community, and to allow resources to be targeted to where they are most needed.

Launch event
The launch event on Tuesday 4 December will start in Penicuik Town Hall at 5.30pm (refreshments from 5.15) and will last until 7pm. The exhibitions and a series of talks will also be held throughout the week, ending on the afternoon of Saturday 8 December.

Funding support
Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor Russell Imrie, welcomed the project launch.

He said: “With funding support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, the council and its partners will be able to undertake a significant programme of improvements to Penicuik’s historic town centre,” said Councillor Imrie. “We look forward to working with local residents, property owners and businesses on this exciting regeneration project and would encourage local residents to come along and hear more about these proposals and the new Neighbourhood Plan.”
